Hello, my Grade 4/5 Literary geniuses! I hope you had a chance to remember our veterans!  :)

Continue working on your paragraph (4 - 6 sentences) about at home learning if you haven’t already finished it. Reminder to be super neat as this will be handed in when you return to school.

Please complete the third page of Rule 7:

Before colouring your path with a bright pencil crayon, marker or crayon, maybe check the plural words off with a pencil first. Have fun!!

Also, read over and study your spelling words.

Please be super neat when colouring/shading in your circles on the 10 frames. Feel free to use different coloured pencil crayons or markers!!

Then, please log on to Dreambox either on a tablet or home computer and get some coins by playing the games for at least 20 minutes. I have emailed your sign in passwords to the email address on the school file.

Today I would like you to start on Rule #7 – Irregular Plurals

When you look over the words on the first page the plurals are not simply adding s or es, the singular noun changes too!

Highlight: Some nouns have special plural forms. They are called irregular plurals.

Please complete the second page:

A)   Fill in the Blanks (Hint: look back on page 1 to help you fill in the blanks, read the sentences carefully and fill in what makes sense)

B)    Please find 5-8 different irregular plural nouns

Continue working on your paragraph (4 - 6 sentences) about at home learning. Please include the following in your sentences:     (hint 1 sentence may have several items below in it)

  1. Use a singular noun    (rule 6) green
  2. Use a plural noun        (rule 6) green
  3. Write a compound sentence using ‘and’, ‘or’, or ‘but’ (rule 4) yellow
  4. Use a proper noun       (rule 5) red
  5. Use a common noun   (rule 5) red
  6. Use a statement sentence        (rule 1) blue
  7. Use an exclamation sentence (rule 1) blue
  8. Write complete sentences with a subject and predicate         (rule 2) pink

Some questions to think about:

  • Do you like or not like home learning?
  • What do you miss about school?
  • What are you doing at home when you’re not working on schoolwork?

After your paragraph is written please go through the sentences you created and underline using different colours where you used each rule. The colours to use are highlighted by rule. (See above)

Example: Today I am going to have bacon and eggs for breakfast, or maybe I will have cereal instead. My favourite is Cheerios. They are the best! Later this afternoon, my son will walk the dog. I can’t wait until I can be teaching in my classroom again. (Please see the email for the colours of this sentence as it didn't show up in this format! )

At home if you haven’t already, please do 'Day 5' of your original Math at Home package that was from September. This is review of skip counting.

Today starts a new week of at home learning. This weekend 2 Math booklets were picked up. The first one you started in class during our MATH workshop ‘At your desk’ center. It is a booklet on ODD and EVEN. Please finish this booklet first before starting the new booklet on PLACE VALUES!

The place values booklet we will start tomorrow!

****Please read the instructions before starting 

A part – be sure to refer to the beginning page for all the rules to help you make the nouns plural

B part – first choose a noun, then make the word plural, then write a sentence with both the noun and plural word (they do not need to be the same)

Example: We have two couches in my living room, but I always sit in the comfy chair.

    couches – plural noun        chair – singular noun                        

    sentence – compound with ‘but’ conjunction
