Hello, my Grade 4/5 Literary geniuses! I hope you have a super great weekend!  :)

In your new packets was the Newspaper assignment written out for you to reference and on the back is your new spelling words! The spelling words focus on short and long ‘i’ sound. Take time today to say your spelling list words out loud and listen for the short or long ‘i’ sound. It may be helpful for you to make a list of all the words with a short ‘i’ sound and another list of all the words with a long ‘i’ sound. Of course, your spelling test won’t happen until you return so you have all next week to practice spelling your words!!

Hello my Grade 2 mathematicians! It’s a cold day!     :)

Put your thinking caps on for this one... You know what seems odd to me?......Numbers that can’t be divided by 2!! LOL

You will need spaghetti, macaroni and rice to use for the math!

Wednesday:

a)     Please select 5 small items from your living room…it could be a TV remote, coaster, lamp, throw pillow etc. and measure each item first with the macaroni, then with the spaghetti and lastly with the rice. On a piece of paper, write down your findings like this:    (you can make a chart if you want)

Example…  = 14 macaroni     1 spaghetti      30 rice

b)     Please select 2 big items like the couch, TV, coffee table etc. and ESTIMATE (close guess) how many macaroni you think you would use, then how many spaghetti and lastly how much rice. Use your actual numbers from measuring big items in the kitchen and bedroom to make a close guess.

For example, is your bed the same length as your couch? How many spaghetti did I count for my bed? How many spaghetti could I estimate for the couch?

Write down how many you think. Then choose 1 item to measure using ONLY macaroni or spaghetti or rice. Write down the actual number beside your estimated number. Were you close?

Have fun with measuring your items!! If you can, take pictures and send them to my email so I can see how you’re doing!!!

Then, please log on to Dreambox either on a tablet or home computer and get some coins by playing the games for at least 20 minutes.

Please email me at melissa.barry@nbed.nb.ca if you can’t find your Dreambox login information from the last online learning time or if you have any questions.

Hello my Grade 2 mathematicians! I hope you had some fun in the snow!     :)

Put your thinking caps on for this one... What's the tastiest unit of measurement? ...

             Millimeter (mm)!! LOL

Today we are starting our measurement unit! You will need spaghetti, macaroni and rice to use for the math!

Monday:

a)     Please select 5 small items from your kitchen…it could be a fork, spoon, spatula, plate, bowl, loaf of bread, cereal box etc. and measure each item first with the macaroni, then with the spaghetti and lastly with the rice. For example…lay a wooden spoon on a counter and line up the macaroni so that they touch (I couldn’t get my pictures of macaroni to touch) to see how many macaroni will fit side by side to equal the same length as the wooden spoon. If my macaroni were touching there would be 12 I figure. (please check email for the picture of spoon and macaroni)

On a piece of paper, write down your findings like this:    (you can make a chart if you want)

Wooden spoon = 12 macaroni     1 spaghetti      30 rice

a)     Please select 2 big items like your stove, fridge, dishwasher, island, table etc. and measure each item first with the macaroni, then with the spaghetti and lastly with the rice. Then write down your findings.

Have fun with measuring your items!! If you can, take pictures and send them to my email so I can see how you’re doing!!!

***Also, please work on any math sheets that are not complete before logging on to Dreambox!!!

Then, please log on to Dreambox either on a tablet or home computer and get some coins by playing the games for at least 20 minutes.
