Home Learning Apr.27th-May 1st

Hi Grade One,

Wow! We are into our fourth week of home learning and another month is just a few days away! I hope everyone had a great week and were able to work through activities that were given. Don’t forget to check out Mr. Mason’s suggestions for a week of exercise and fun! If you have any questions, concerns or just want to send a message please do so through email.

Reading

Please read at least 15 minutes each day.

Parents: Try to include some non-fiction reading into your child’s book selections as these books-

·         -Prepare us for later years

·         -Expands our vocabulary

·        - Helps second language learners

·         -Offers solutions to real world problems

·         -Motivates reluctant readers by increasing their curiosity and interest in the world around them

Enjoy these non-fiction books and check out your reading sites for more!

An Animal, My Friend, My New… or Easter Fun

A Fun Writing Challenge

I will email you an example. Have Fun!

Also, check out the document that I posted from out District Literacy Team.

Math

Always review previous work from time to time.

I hope everyone enjoyed creating their own math word problems last week. You could review this weekly by continuing to write 1 addition and 1 subtraction problem.

We are going to try some ‘mental math’ this week. I have emailed some links to help you with this. If you look at the front of your math fact scribbler you will see some notes on mental math there as well. Have fun getter smarter!

Included here are some links so you can review number bonds of 10 (friends of 10) and doubles.

Gr. One Home Schooling Week of April 20th

Hi Boys and Girls,

I hope everyone had a great weekend and had some time to play outside in this nice weather. I was able to go for some refreshing walks. It’s so nice to see the water flowing in the rivers again and hear the birds singing. Spring is here at last! Feel free to email me if you any have any questions or just want to send me a note.  Enjoy your week.

Reading-

Read at least 15 minutes a day.

Tip: Reading aloud introduces new words, grammar and concepts that you may not use during regular reading. An average child’s picture book may have around 500 words. These add up fast!

Parents: Please refer to the document I posted from the District Literacy Team. It has some great suggestions for Speaking/Listening, Reading /Viewing and Writing/Representing that your child may enjoy doing.

Cool and Fun Idea: Since I haven’t been able to visit my Granddaughter Aida, I started doing a video of me reading a story to her. She loves listening to these stories. I think it would be fun if you had someone at home video you reading a story to someone that you haven’t been able to visit!! I bet a relative, neighbor, teacher or friend would love listening to a story read by ‘you!!’

Word Work-

Work on your sight words. I've included a link below that has a cute game.

https://www.abcya.com/games/out_of_sight_words

Spelling-

I will email your new words for this week. Let’s exercise this week with our new words. Stand up for each consonant letter and sit down for each vowel. Have fun learning! What other exercises can you do while going over your words?

Vowels

Writing-

Continue writing in some format each day. This week you might like to write notes to friends or family members that you are not able to visit right now. Another idea that you might like to try: Choose a favorite picture that you have and write abut it.

Remember: the literacy document has some cool suggestions too

Math

Students should continue to review previous skills from time to time.

I heard that many of you enjoyed last week’s word problems that I emailed to you. Awesome!

This week I would like you to try to create a few addition and subtraction story problems orally. Then, try writing them down. I will email an outline which you may find helpful. I know you can do it!! Be creative! Be silly!!

I will also email you some more facts to go over! Can you find the partners?

Ex: 9+7=16                      16-9=7

       7+9=16                     16-7=9

Does anyone recall what these facts are called? (A fact family!)

Don’t forget dreambox lessons! Have fun learning!!
