Home Learning Apr.27th-May 1st

Hi Grade One,

Wow! We are into our fourth week of home learning and another month is just a few days away! I hope everyone had a great week and were able to work through activities that were given. Don’t forget to check out Mr. Mason’s suggestions for a week of exercise and fun! If you have any questions, concerns or just want to send a message please do so through email.

Reading

Please read at least 15 minutes each day.

Parents: Try to include some non-fiction reading into your child’s book selections as these books-

·         -Prepare us for later years

·         -Expands our vocabulary

·        - Helps second language learners

·         -Offers solutions to real world problems

·         -Motivates reluctant readers by increasing their curiosity and interest in the world around them

Enjoy these non-fiction books and check out your reading sites for more!

Writing

If you are looking for some new ideas to write about here are a few you may like to try:

An Animal, My Friend, My New… or Easter Fun

A Fun Writing Challenge

Choose a different object each day of the week. For each object, write a description of it without ever saying what the object is.

I will email you an example. Have Fun!

Also, check out the document that I posted from out District Literacy Team.

Math

Always review previous work from time to time.

I hope everyone enjoyed creating their own math word problems last week. You could review this weekly by continuing to write 1 addition and 1 subtraction problem.

We are going to try some ‘mental math’ this week. I have emailed some links to help you with this. If you look at the front of your math fact scribbler you will see some notes on mental math there as well. Have fun getter smarter!

Included here are some links so you can review number bonds of 10 (friends of 10) and doubles.
